With last week’s Club Day still fresh on our minds, here’s a list of some of the great clubs and teams this school has to offer.

Programming Club

When: Monday afternoons from 2:30 – 3:30

Where: A103

Coding club is a place where you can learn to program. Currently, it is focused on learning Python, as well as participating in the Hour of Code and getting middle school students involved in computer science. There is also a game design element, as many members are game developers or are interested in game dev. If you enjoy programming, want to learn programming, or are interested in other elements of game design (writing, art, music, ect.), you should join programming club!

Model UN

When: Tuesdays

Where: A115

Once we register for a conference we will be told by the conference organizers what countries we represent and what the topic of the conference will be. Then as a group we will decide who in our club will represent each country assigned to us. After that it’s all about preparing – reading and research mostly. At the conference there will be students from multiple schools all representing different countries. Using the standard UN meeting rules (which we practice), everyone attempts to come up with resolutions to solve the problem related to the topic of the conference, all while using research and acting like the country really would based on their actual, real-world wants, needs, and challenges. To be involved in Model UN you need to speak in public, research, and have an interest in world affairs. And most important: it’s way more fun than it sounds!

Souhegan Ocean Bowl

When: TBD, usually one day a week after school from 2:30-3:00

Where: In the annex, room 217 (Julianne’s Room)

Our team prepares for the annual Ocean Bowl competition. The Ocean Bowl is a regional competition that takes place the first weekend in February. Students from around New England compete in a buzzer-style face off, demonstrating their knowledge of marine sciences. If you love learning about the ocean, this is a great opportunity to learn more and meet people who share your passion!

The Claw

When: Wednesday at 2:30

Where: The Writing Center

The Claw is a student journalism site for anyone who’s interested in writing, photography, video production, reporting, and many more. It gives students a chance to improve their skills while spreading the word about their interests. Sports, arts, politics, reviews, fashion; The Claw has lots of great story opportunities. There’s usually snacks, as well. If that doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what will. Join The Claw!

Book Club

When: After school, approx. one time each month; usually on a Tues, Thurs or Friday.

Where: The Writing Center

We come together to talk about a book that we chose together, and to share information about other books we are reading. We read both young adult and adult books, and try to mix it up. 🙂

The Roundtable Magazine

When: Every Wednesday after school

The Roundtable is a student-submission based art magazine for SHS. We cover arts at the school such as theater, music, events, and more. We are looking for on-staff writers and photographers!

SHS FIRST Robotics

When: Wednesdays & Saturdays

Where: Monarch Instruments

“For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” (FIRST) was founded by entrepreneur & inventor Dean Kamen in 1989 to inspire students to pursue engineering and science careers. The program incorporates the excitement of a sporting competition to expose students to the engineering, mathematics, and physics disciplines. FIRST Robotics Competition challenge is released in January and changes every year. The team designs, assembles, and tests a 120 lb competition robot in six weeks and competes in two district competitions in the New England area. The Souhegan High School FIRST Robotics team won the 2014 Granite State District championship and qualified for the 2015 World Championship!
