Dream Realized!
Talented. Energetic. Enthusiastic. Committed. These are the words that the coaching staff at the Baboosic Lake Rowing Club (BLRC) uses to describe the group of athletes that have joined the program. “It is impressive to see the excitement and skill from the youth (boys and girls) and masters’ program,” says Coaches, Leigh Ann Evans and Tim Coutreau. The high level of proficiency begins with the youth and stretches through the masters’ program where new rowers from 14 years of age to 77 years of age committed to themselves and each other to learn how to row.
This Fall Season provided a number of firsts for the BLRC. The club dedicated its first new boat, “Kaveney’s Dream,” and before the champagne could dry on the bow, the Souhegan Varsity Women’s 4 raced to a gold medal at the Mattawanakee Fall Classic in Westford, MA. The masters’ program was able to compete in three races in both the men’s and women’s events and concluded the season feeling accomplished and pleased with their rowing progress. Additionally, as a sign of great things to come, the Souhegan Men’s Novice 4 finished 3rd out of 18 boats for a bronze medal at the New Hampshire Championships in Pembroke, NH.
However, as the Fall Season comes to a close and the water returns to its restful state, the program looks forward. The club’s foundation has been built by a group of veteran masters rowers and youth rowers that have gone on to row at the collegiate level. Building upon this foundation, the club is confident that the new rowers will propel the program to even greater success. Thus, it can be said that the “Dream” has been realized!
