From Crew to Community
The Souhegan Crew team is a great community of people built on trust and dependability. The Crew team generally practices on Baboosic Lake and just recently finished their first season in late October. We sat down with Laura Pease, a member of the crew team, and asked her a few questions.
“(Crew) builds a sense of community because people need to depend on each other and trust each other” Pease said, “each person is relying on one one another and if one person is off then the whole boat is.” — Laura Pease
Crew is a team sport that heavily relies on every teammate to pull their own weight. Crew means a lot to many people because of this community of trust they have built. People on the team trust each other greatly, one mess up putting the boat in the water and they all fall in.
For most rowers it’s a huge commitment that they do all year. Most rowers do fall, winter, and spring crew leaving no room for any other sport. It also takes up a lot time pushing other commitments out of the way and people choosing crew over their other commitments.
Crew is a large part of many people’s lives at Souhegan and the sport has been able to make a community of good people built on dependability and trust.
