If you’re looking to experience something new this year that could make a big impact on your life, you might want to look into the backpacking trips happening through the school this year. Over the long weekend, the Souhegan Outing Club led its first backpacking trip. The trip was an all girl overnight camping trip up Moose Mountain led by Terry Berna and Kim Theriault.

The hike was over the course of three days and followed part of the Appalachian Trail. Ten girls went on the trip and among them were Eliza Cullen and Emily Grudzien. Eliza Cullen said, “The biggest challenge the group faced during the hike was probably the weather”.

On Saturday night it reached below 20 degrees and was snowing. “It was hard to stay positive when the weather was so brutal” Eliza said.

Emily Grudzien said her favorite part was “Summiting  the mountain because the scenery was amazing!”Emily Grudzien will be leading trips through the year as a part of her senior project. Emily’s senior project is on how backpacking empowers women and she’s looking forward to more hiking trips that will be occurring soon.
