Community Council Votes Yes to Gender Neutral Bathrooms
After months of debate and a polling from Souhegan’s student body, Community Council has voted yes to assigning an appropriate amount of gender neutral bathrooms. This vote acts as a recommendation to the school board, and not a vote to officially put in the gender neutral bathrooms.
The vote was overwhelming in favor of the proposal, with 44 out of the 47 members of council voting. The proposal has been discussed tirelessly since the end of last school year, and was voted upon with a lot of thought.
The proposal will have to go through the school board and later the facilities staff to put the bathrooms through. The amount and location of the bathrooms is still to be determined, and will be discussed if the proposal is fully approved.
The gender neutral bathrooms, if put in place will be assigned during the 2017-2018 school year.
