The Boys and Girls alpine team stepped onto the slopes for their first race this season . With only one day running gates, they went up against Division I schools Bishop Guertin, Derryfield, and Division II schools, Hollis Brookline, Conval, Pembroke, Oyster River, and an one man team of Wilton- Lyndenboro.

In the first run the sophomore Olivia Bennett took 3rd place with a time of 33.98 and following her in 4th, Katie Taylor had a time of 34.08. These two followed up their first run, with an equally as strong run, allowing for the girls team to clinch second place in their first race of the season.
The boys race didn’t go as smoothly as the girls race. The previous 45 girls who ran the course created a rut on a gate right before a delay. The first male racer to go couldn’t control his speed and took a fall on this rut not allowing him to finish his first run. This was a common mistake as there were six racers who couldn’t survive this gate and did not finish (DNF).

This race the teams to go first went alphabetically and within the team Seniors went first and freshman went last.  However, freshman Andrew Taylor, who ran last for the whole boys race,  kicked it into high gear blowing away competition and placing himself in 6th place as a freshman with a time of 32.68.

Between the second and first run, officials reset the gate that was causing people to DNF so it was more of a cleaner run. It most definitely helped. Junior, Sam Ezequelle secured himself a spot in 11th place with two very strong runs, and freshman Andrew Taylor also had a significant run holding his rank in 6th place. At the end of the night the Souhegan boys took home 3rd place. Overall both Souhegan Alpine teams had wonderful performances, and it looks as though the teams are just going to keep getting stronger.‏
