Track and Field kicked off its season with a home meet against Pinkerton and Kearsarge Friday afternoon.  Although the weather was cold and dreary with an average temperature of 45°F and a constant drizzle of rain, the meet went smoothly, and many came out to support the team.  On the boys’ side, the Sabers tied for second with Kearsarge (both had 25 points) and Pinkerton took first (113 points), while the girls’ team came in second (60.5 points), Kearsarge in third (8 points), and Pinkerton in first (95.5 points).

Trey Johnson (Fr) finished first in his heat for the Men’s 200 Meter Dash (26.02 seconds).  Rowen Bentley-Melle (Fr) also finished first in her heat for the Women’s 100 Meter Dash.  Her final time was 15.61 seconds.  Other impressive performances by Souhegan on the track included Jane Leighton’s (Jr) 800 Meter Run (2:29.77), Patrick McGrath’s (Sr) 1600 Meter Run (4:33.54), and Ashley Barham’s (Fr) 100 Meter Hurdles (18.33 seconds).  All three of these athletes finished first overall in their event.

On the field, Souhegan placed particularly well in two events.  For the High Jump, both Billy Seguin and Elise Lambert took first in their respective events.  Seguin jumped 5′6″ and Lambert 4′8″.  The same went for the Discus Throw with Tom Robinson snagging the top spot for the men’s event by throwing 132′5″, and Shannon Paquette taking first for the women’s event with a throw of 89′11″.

Overall, the entire team looked strong for their season debut.  The second meet of the year will take place tomorrow at 4:00pm on Souhegan’s very own turf.  Come out and support the Sabers as they compete against Portsmouth, Oyster River, and Milford.
