Top Ten Tips and Tricks to Fantasy Baseball

- Draft players who can play multiple positions. A player like Manny Machado who can play third and shortstop gives you depth if your starting shortstop gets injured.
- Know your position in the draft. If you’re in a snake style draft, know how long it will be until your next pick and decide accordingly whether or not to risk waiting on a player.
- Power hitters are very helpful in Roto style leagues. Home Runs, RBI’s and runs scored, score big in these leagues.
- Speedy players are also helpful to draft. Stolen bases aren’t common, but they are worth a lot of points.
- When drafting hitters, know where they hit in the line-up. Early hitters in the lineup get up to bat more often, giving you potential to earn more points.
- Take games played into consideration. If players missed a lot of the previous season due to injury and are injury prone avoid drafting them until later rounds.
- Age is a factor. Both positively and negatively. Don’t draft Jacoby Ellsbury based on his stats in 2009. He’s gotten older, slower and less productive.
- Same goes for pitchers. With age, pitchers tend to lose velocity. This is problematic considering strikeouts are big fantasy points.
- Be prepared in your draft. Be prepared if someone swoops in with your top pick right before you. Always have a backup plan.
- DO YOUR RESEARCH COMING IN! Don’t go into the draft blind. There isn’t time to research during the 90 seconds you have to draft a player. Be prepared!
