Souhegan Girls Volleyball ends St. Thomas’ undefeated streak

On Friday October 6, the Souhegan Sabers were up against the undefeated team, St. Thomas Aquinas in an unbelievable volleyball match. The sabers took the first set at 25-20. The second set was a well fought battle but the Sabers came up short with a 20-25 upset.

The third set went into extra points at 24-26 with the Saints taking a 2-1 lead against the Sabers. In the fourth set, the Lady Sabers showed them who’s gym it was and took the momentum back to tie it all up. In the fifth and final set the Saints steamed out with a huge lead going 13-2. The Sabers were able to side out and MVP of the night Katie O’Brien took the Sabers to victory with an 11 point serving run with 7 aces to finish the game.

Saber lead scorers for the night were O’Brien with 8 kills and 13 service aces,  Molly Driscoll with 4 kills and 5 blocks, and Lila Morgan with 20 assists. Amazing defense across the board by Lauren Adriaansen with 29 digs for the night followed by 16 from O’Brien, 15 from Katerina Stuopis, and 14 from Callie McBride.
The amount of perseverance and dedication that the Sabers played with Friday night was undeniably a highlight for the season. Since the beginning the Sabers have continued to grow and improve tremendously.  Girls volleyball are currently 5-6 and will continue to keep moving forward and compete for their place in the playoffs.
