On October 14th twenty students and three teachers arrived at Souhegan High School from Mannheim, Germany for the fourteenth year of the Souhegan-Germany Exchange Program. The program was started by Souhegans former German teacher, Kim Vitchkoski, and it sends students from Germany to live with students from Souhegan, North, and South.

While in New Hampshire, students from Germany have been given the chance to explore a lot of the east coast. They visited Kittery and Ogunquit, ME, exploring the seacoast and going on a whale watch. They also went down to Massachusetts, exploring the Bunker Hill Monument, Quincy Market, the Freedom Trail, Plymouth Plantation, Fenway Park, and the Boston Museum of Science.

The students also spent a lot of time learning about American culture right here at Souhegan. They were given a lesson on American cooking with Paula, and they all enjoyed making pancakes! In Germany, there are no cooking classes at school and all of the students were amazed at the variety of classes that students have to choose from here. They also enjoyed some team building exercises with John Dowd on the ropes course.

Students from Souhegan also have the opportunity to visit Germany in April. The SHS students will do many of the things that the German students did while in America; living with a host family, going to a German high school, and exploring many of Germany’s historical sites!
